Watercolor at AOS

This month Miae is guesting us at Allt Om Scrap. She has been kind enough to make a tutorial on how she use watercolors on her backgrounds. She has done a fantastic and very inspiring film that you must see! Take a look at her tutorial and the design team’s interpretations here.

As I love watercolours so this challenge was a lot of fun to me! I have taken some photos of my background during the process to make my creative process visible. Here is the final result:

The first step was to add watercolour on my white cardstock. I used blue, green and red. I also splashed on some yellow and blue. You can see the watercolours I use on the photo. I use the brush closest to the cardstock (with a fine tip) to add color on the cardstock and the other one to create splashes.

Next step was to stamp with different stamps in different colors.

Finally I added some embellishments. Here are some close-ups:

Lego

This layout is made for a challenge at Allt Om Scrap where we were supposed to create something using coloured wire. Unfortunately I couldn’t find any in any of my favourite web shops so I was forced to be creative. What to do? I found some wire with green plastic that I use in our garden… and it worked perfectly. As you can see I used it to form the word Lego, which is the name of the toy our daughter is playing with in the photo.

This time I added gesso on my background using a template before adding water colour. That creates a pattern on the background. I had a hard time blending different water colours to achieve the exact shade for the background – the same as our daughter’s trousers on the photo. And when I finally managed I was a bit proud. But that is what I love about water colours – you don’t have to buy every shade because you can blend it yourself. :) Here is a close up:

Dance show

You must take a look at Punky Scraps challenge this month! This time we have a gorgeous color combination and inspiration picture and it worked perfect with this photo of our daughter in a professional dance show. :)

 

 

I used water color, splashes of mist and stamps to create the background. I also added some embellishments on the dance theme and (of course) some bling.

Our new lamp

A new month means new challenges! This month I have made so many DT layouts I better start showing them right away. I’m starting out with ARTastic. This month we are inspired by a painting by Max Mannix and the criteria is to use distressing on your work. I used a cardstock made for sanding behind my photo. I also tried to capture the ruff feeling in the painting.

To create the background I first added pink and beige watercolour. After it dried I added black acrylic paint. I know I promised to show some tips and tricks together with my layouts but unfortunately I keep forgetting to take photos along the way. It is like I fly away to another planet when creating and when the layout is finished I land in my scrapbooking room thinking I should have taken photos… Anyway… here are some close ups on the finished layout:

 

The photo shows our daughter with our new lamp on her head. I LOVE that lamp!

Purple and green at Punky Scraps

Today I want to show you my DT layout for Punky Scraps May challenge. We have an awesome color combination for you – purple and green. We also have an inspiring sketch. Here is my interpretation:

 

I used watercolour to create a background inspired by the sketch using purple and green. I also doodled circles to frame one sticker, one flair button and one heart.

Liebster award with questions and answers

SannaLippert send me an Award and has passed on some questions for me to answer. I thought this was a very fun award so I definetely wanted to answer and pass it on (it has taken quite a while, though). I am not very good at English but I have done my best. Before reading my answers you should go and visit Sanna‘sblog. She is a really talented and warm hearted scrapbooker who shares a lot of her tips and tricks with us. There are always something inspiring to find! Thank you Sanna for this reward. Here are my answers:

1.      What is your favorite TV soap?

 

Actually, I never watch TV. I prefer scrapbooking, reading etc. I think life is too short to waste it on watching TV.

 

2. Where would you travel to, if you had an open end budget?

 

In 1995, before I met my husband I spend 3 month in the countryside in Tanzania. I would love to show my husband and our daughter all the places I visited and to meet the people I got to know there. And of course I would go to a place I have never visited before. That would be Angkor wat in Cambodia.

 

3. What was your favorite thing to do as a child?

 

Running and drawing.

 

4. Share a funny story that has happened to you

 

Some weeks ago my 5-year old daughter said. I am just growing and growing. Then she looked at me and said: But you are not, you are just becoming a grandma.

5. Share a photo from where you live – someting typical to your country

7. What would you like to learn, but never did?

Parashouting.

8. What was your dream job as a kid?

I am not sure, but I think I wanted to be a teacher.

My grandmothers aunt Gerda. She chose never to marry, she travelled to foreign countries and was partying back in the 1920’s. I met her when I was I child, but I did not know that her life was so unusual.

10. What´s on your bucket list?

I want a new, huge, balcony on our house. A bit too expensive at the moment. But we will soon build a long pergola in the garden and I have been longing for that for a long time. If you meant something for scrapbooking I need some small text stickers to use for my project life pages.

Mother and child

This month challenge at ARTastic is about motherhood and flowers. There is also a painting by Robert Hagan to be inspired by. Here is my take on the challenge:

My photo shows me and my daughter. She tells me every day that she loves me more than space (lucky me!). I am not allowed to respond with the same words so I answer that I love her more than universe. I wanted to save it to the future so I wrote it in two speech bubbles.

I only had one stamp with a speech bubble but I wanted one on each side. What to do? I stamped it on cardstock, turned it around, held it against a window, draw the mirrored speech bubble with a pencil and filled its lines with a black pen.

On the background I made some flowers using water colors. If you want a tutorial on how to make them you will find one here at ARTastic.

Burlap and a tutorial on Pan Pastel and acrylic paint

Today Allt Om Scrap shows some inspiration on how to use burlap on your layouts. I chose to use one of those gorgeous burlap embellishments that you can find on the market at the moment. To make it fit better with the theme of the layout I added some black ink at its edges to make it look Dirty.

I also did a tutorial on my background:

I first added modelling paste on a template using an old putty knife. After it dried I added Pan Pastel  in yellow and red using a sponge. You can see how the Pan Pastel makes the dots more visible at the photo. Finally I added black acrylic paint. I added the paint…

 

…And spread it where I wanted it using the same putty knife as before. After the paint has dried you can stamp, add embellishments or whatever you want.

Fantasy lego cars

Here is my DT layout for Punky Scraps this month. Punky Scraps is celebrating spring with a spring inspired moodboard. I was inspired by the colors and the playfulness in the picture. To get as intense colors as in the picture I used acrylic paint.

 

 

I first added grey watercolour, then acrylic paint, and finally splashed on some black mist.

 

I thought tis tape from Glitz was perfect in its colors but I wanted some texture to the page. To achieve that I taped it on cardstock, cut it out and fastened it on the layout using 3D-dots.

On her way to a party

This layout is a DT layout for Allt Om Scrap. The challenge is to use chalkboard on your layout. I used a chalkboard patterned paper behind the photo and a chalkboard stickers.

The photo shows DD on her way to her first party. Looking tuff, isn’t she?

I used watercolours on the background. I also splashed some acrylic paint and added three hearts to accentuate the splashes.

I just noticed that I forgot to show you my DT layout for Kraft It Up! this month. It’s a fun (and easy challenge). This month you are asked to create a layout using Kraft and at least 5 of the following six items...Layers, Sequins, Mists/Paints/Gelato's, Tearing or Disressing, Stamping, Arrows or Triangles. I have layers, sequins, watercolours/mist/paint, stamping and triangles on my layout:

Silliness at ARTastic

April starts with April Fool’s Day and “in honour of pranksters and joke loving people, the inspiration piece at ARTastic comes from the Alice in Wonderland series of painting by Charles Blackman". Criteria is anything goes but your photo must depict crazy antics, silliness or just having loads of fun.

I chose a photo of DD and her grandfather posing in a silly way. When he does something silly (happens very often) she is immediately copying him. :)

 

I used yellow watercolour, purple acrylic paint and green ink on a template (to match the pattern from the chess board) to create the background.

 

I thought I should start to show you some small tips and tricks/ideas when I have some. On this page I show a way to create embellishments that you can use in the same way as flair buttons. I have used two different stamps, cut them out and fastened them with 3D Foam. In this way you add texture to your page and get an embellishment in exactly the shade you want! If you use a lot of wet media to create your background this might also be the only way to add it as the layout is wrinkled…
