Midsummer girl

That’s just so cute has a challenge this month to create a layout in one hour. I thought it would be fun to try – and I made it! Actually it was quite interesting. I did get to know myself a little more – at least as a scrapbooker. Now I know that I don’t like to stress when creating and I know that most of the time I spend on a layout is thinking and searching for the exact shade… And I want to spend a long time doing it, listening to soft jazz music… For me scrapbooking is connected with relaxation and not stress.

But I love challenges… so I might just try it again… ;)

Here’s the result:

I first added gesso and then continued with mist, stamping, and washi tape. I finally splashed some acrylic paint and added some triangles. That’s what you can do in one hour if you know what to do before starting and you have a heating gun to dry between the layers.

Tivoli

Punky Scraps has an awesome colorful summer collage as an inspiration this month. There is also a sketch to follow. I loved the vibrant colors in the collage and the feeling that there are too much of everything. I wanted to transform that to my layout and used a photo taken recently at Tivoli.

Jeans

This layout is made for Allt Om Scrap. The theme of the challenge was jeans. I have had an idea to make a monochromatic layout in jeans colors for ages. This was my chance! I almost did it but I added some other colors too as I thought it looked better that way.

I used a lot of different jeans patterned papers and there is also a piece of fabric. The text is made with a Dymo – my new fave that I got as a birthday present from my dad!

If you are wondering what the text says it says that DD is sitting like a teenager even though she is only four years old. :)

Princess

This layout is made for ScrapFriends Color Palette Challenge #13. I loved the color palette and I have stuck to the right nuances.

The photo is taken when DD is on her way to a masquerade. Need I say that the other girls were jealous of her dress?

Recycling at ARTastic

The challenge at ARTastic this month is to use recycled material (i.e. minimal commercial products) on your layout. The inspiration piece is ‘Robin’s Nest’ by environmental artist Susan Schenk.

Interesting, when you start thinking… It’s quite hard to find anything that is not commercial products. I mean, even if it’s not a scrapbooking product it’s still a commercial product. All I could think of was flowers and branches from the garden. But I like colorful layouts… Then I came up with the idea to use garbage. That can’t be seen as a commercial product! So I want out to the trash can to get the product packaging from DD’s play toys. :)

Everything on the layout is garbage, except for the photo, some mixed media products and washi tape. Here’s the result:

I had a great time creating this. And when DD saw it she wanted to do the same. So we are spreading thoughts about recycling to the next generation. :)

White, white, white

Today there is a new challenge up at Punky Scraps. This month you are asked to create a layout with bright colors using a sketch by Marie (Mison). There is also a painting by Tracy Verdugo to inspire you. The painting is awesome and I really felt inspired by it. I hope you feel inspired too!

The painting inspired me to make “patterned dots”. I followed the sketch quite closely but I turned it to the left.

The journaling tells a cute story that I want to remember. One evening DD and I was sitting in our big but dark room talking about how good it would look if we painted it all white. I told her that maybe it was too expensive so we couldn’t afford it. She was thinking for a moment and then she said: “But, we can BUY some money”. :)

Well, as you can see on the photo I used, it’s all white by now . The photo is taken from the first floor and DD is standing upstairs in our scrapping room. The colorful heart from Glitz was perfect to use as a frame to accentuate all the white in the photo.

Writing a shopping list

The inspiration piece at ARTastic this month is “Tea Time 2012” by Michael Duncan. It’s a hand cut 53 layer stencil! And of course the criteria is to use stencils/masks. Here’s my DT-layout:

I didn’t use 35 stencils... (And you don’t have to). I started with gesso on a template with cameras. Then I added some mist to make the cameras visible. I also used templates for doodling and to make different pattern with acrylic paint. Here are some close ups:

The photo shows DD on her way to the grocery store. Nowadays she is the one who writes the shopping list and she is SO proud.

Learning good manors

Here’s my DT layout for Kraft It Up!. This month the challenge is to create a vintage inspired layout – on Kraft Cardstock or Kraft Patterned Paper. I’m not a vintage scrapper. So, what to do? Copy someone else? No, I decided to create a layout in my usual style but to use photo, papers and embellishments that look old. Here’s my interpretation:

The photo shows DD and DH when they drink to toast. As you can see DD has learned to rise her glass, look the other person in his eyes, and nod slightly she drinks to toast. Quite cute when you’re four years old. :)

I did a lot of layering, added a lot of gesso and doodled some. Here’s some close ups:

Biggest chocolate ever..?

I loved Palette #148 over at The Color Room so I decided to play along. It contains peachy pink and some sage green. I thought it was perfect together with this photo of DD taken this Easter. I gave her this huge chocolate rabbit and it was of course an appreciated gift.

Driving RC car

This layout is made for Veckans skiss. The photo shows DD and my father playing with her RC car. With one man and one car in the photo I took the opportunity to make a more masculine or "car-ish" layout.

I followed the sketch quite closely. All three papers behind the photo are there. You’ll also find two banners and an arrow. Here’s a close-up:

Piano carpet

This layout is made for sketch challenge # 12 at ScrapFriends. I turned the sketch around to fit my photo, so that everything is on the right side instead. I used paint to create the diagonal lines. I have no title but I have text on the same place as in the sketch.

Yellow, turquoise, grey and triangles

Today I’m going to show you a layout I have made for Allt Om Scrap. This was a challenge that I really enjoyed! It feels so fresh and captures a lot of this spring’s scrapbooking trends. Yellow, turquoise, grey and triangles. I used a photo taken at this year’s egg hunt. I thought these colors would look fresh with an Eastern photo and they are also found on the egg – terrific coincidence.

4 new layouts

I’m here to show you four new layouts.

I’m starting off with a layout that I have made for a sketch challenge at Veckans skiss. The sketch is dominated by a lot of hexagons but I’m all into triangles at the moment so I switched the geometrical figures into triangles instead. I hope that’s okay.

The second layout is a DT layout for Punky Scraps. It’s a sketch challenge and we are asking for a LOT of yellow and some feathers or other eastery stuff. I have used a patterned paper with feathers and a photo of DD dressed like an Easter witch.

The third layout is a DT layout for Allt Om Scrap. This too is a sketch challenge. (I really love sketch challenges. :)) I used this one to create a feeling that DD is jumping out of the layout.

The last one is my DT layout for ARTastic. We have a cool Mandala painting as an inspiration piece this month. It’s made by artist Trevor Nickolls. The criteria is to use the colors in the painting. You doesn’t have to use the mandala pattern but it can be a cool effect if you want to. :)

Have you noticed that my layouts have become lighter lately? Well, we just renovated our house and my scrapbooking room went from this…

… to this. (The windowsill has not arrived yet.)

This has affected me so that I have begun to make lighter layouts using more white. I asked DH what he thought of it and he first told me that they were too white, I continued experimenting and then he said that there were too many straight lines. Then his opinion was that there was too much empty space. But now it seems like he likes it. Of course my aim is not that he shall be satisfied with how it looks, but sometimes it’s easier to find your own path when listening to what other people think. Then you suddenly know if you agree or not and you know in what direction you want to go. It would be really fun to hear what you think too! And maybe you want to share some thoughts about what you think of using white on your own layouts?
